Information on circumcision
Mary Bridge Children’s Urology does not perform newborn circumcisions. Our doctors only perform circumcisions for children after 6 months of age as a surgical procedure in the hospital under general anesthesia. Learn more about newborn circumcision below.
For the surgery to be covered by insurance, there must be a medical indication for the circumcision. This may be discussed at a consultation visit with one of our doctors or other health care providers; however, a referral from your child’s primary care provider is required.
Circumcision consultations may be scheduled for full-term (born at or after 37 weeks gestation) boys 5 months and older. Babies born before 37 weeks need to be at least five months past their original full-term due date to be seen for evaluation.

Primary care for newborns
Beyond newborn circumcision, regular visits with a primary care provider are important so we can track your child’s growth, development and immunizations, as well as build our relationship with you and your child.
