Custom orthotic support for children
Our orthotic and prosthetic services team follows a medically based model of care, providing a wide variety of unique upper- and lower-extremity orthotic and prosthetic products in different styles. These products help improve joint alignment, maximize function and minimize deformity while helping children reach their full movement potential.
Orthotics staff and services
Our orthotics program, housed at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Services – Puyallup, includes a collaborative team of physicians, therapists, prosthetists/orthotists and technicians. Children and their parents are also important members of the team.
Our belief in the value and importance of children’s involvement is reflected in our products. Our orthotic/prosthetic services include:
- Consultation and evaluation
- Casting, including upper- and lower-extremity serial casting
- Progressive orthotic intervention
- Fabrication of custom upper- and lower-extremity orthoses
- Evaluation, measurement and fitting of custom cranial remolding orthoses
- Fabrication of custom spinal and pectus orthoses
- Fabrication of custom lower-extremity prosthetics
- Selection, measurement and fitting of prefabricated orthoses as appropriate
- Custom shoe modifications and lifts
- Problem-solving for prototype orthoses to address individual needs
- Patient and family education about the use, wear and care of orthoses
We have developed a variety of upper and lower extremity orthotic and prosthetic styles for children to choose from. These products are available in bright colors, feature decorative straps and incorporate patterned padding. Personalizing orthoses often increases a child’s sense of ownership.
