John P. McCloskey, MD completed undergraduate studies in Biologic Sciences at the University of California, Davis. He became a pediatric cardiologist after completing medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, pediatric residency at Seattle Children's Hospital, and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. He has been on the active medical staff of Mary Bridge Children's Hospital since 1989. His patients range from fetal life to adults with congenital heart disease. He has a special interest in Preventive Cardiology and Cardiology Sports Medicine, as well as Adults with Congenital Heart Disease. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology.
He practiced for 34 years in Tacoma and was instrumental in bringing pediatric cardiac surgery to Mary Bridge Children's in 1996. He founded NorthWest Congenital Heart Care in 2001 and served as its Medical Director for over 20 years. After a brief retirement, he has returned to work to help build the pediatric cardiology practice at Mary Bridge.
He is an avid bicyclist, and has cycled throughout the world, including places such as France, Italy, Thailand, and Peru. He completed the Courage Classic bicycle event annually for 20 years. He has raced in the El Tour de Tucson five times, completing the 104 mile race in under six hours on two occasions.
