Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
What is cystic fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic, or inherited, condition that affects both breathing and digestion. Thick mucus builds up in the airways, which can make nutrient absorption difficult and can increase the likelihood of respiratory infections. People with CF are also more likely to develop other conditions, including diabetes, arthritis and osteoporosis, among others.
While there is no cure for cystic fibrosis yet, it can be treated. Treatments are tailored specifically to the needs of each individual patient. This often includes medications, breathing treatments, airway clearance techniques, and dietary support.
