Occupational therapy
Our services
Our occupational therapy professionals offer evaluations, treatment planning, individual therapy sessions and parent education. We also work in tandem with the physical therapy, speech therapy and assistive technology teams to provide care — appointments where patients and families can see specialists the same day at the same time. Other services include:
- Aquatic therapy (available at our Puyallup location)
- Upper body splinting and orthotics/prosthetics
- Consultations with Mary Bridge Children’s clinics and programs, including newborn care and Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics
We work together with primary care providers, schools, community agencies and other providers to ensure the best outcomes for each child and family. Our occupational therapists help kids who have challenges with:
- Fine motor skills and coordination
- Self-care tasks, such as eating and dressing
- Play and problem-solving
- Sensory processing
Our occupational therapy professionals may also support children and teens who are experiencing mental health challenges, such as depression or anxiety. Our goal is to enhance their participation in a variety of developmental and daily activities, from play to social experiences to community participation and more. Therapeutic interventions may include activities that target:
- Sensory systems
- Social-emotional learning
- Self-esteem
- Self-advocacy
- The development of healthy routines
- Stress management
- Coping skills
- Mindfulness
Aquatic therapy
Using the therapeutic value of warm water combined with experienced therapists, aquatic therapy offers individual treatment designed to address a child’s specific needs by focusing on motor control, strength and flexibility. Aquatic therapy is available at our Puyallup location.
