A team approach to sports injuries
Orthopedic specialists at Mary Bridge Children’s take a team approach when it comes to taking care of young athletes with sports-related injuries. Our board-certified orthopedic surgeons, advanced nurse practitioners and physical therapists diagnose and treat a comprehensive range of issues caused by often preventable injuries to the head, neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, hips, knees and legs.
Sports injury prevention programs focus on educating athletes about ways they can reduce the likelihood of injuries while continuing to perform and excel in their chosen sports.

Sports Medicine by Woodcreek Pediatrics
Developing athletes respond to the stresses of competitive sports much differently than adults do, and their unique needs require the care of a sports medicine specialist specifically trained in pediatric care. Woodcreek Pediatrics – Mary Bridge Children’s is pleased to offer this service to patients in our community, whether or not they are established patients with one of our pediatricians.

Pediatric concussion management
In May 2009, the Zach Lystedt Law went into effect in the state of Washington. This law requires that all student athletes with suspected head injuries be removed from play until cleared by a licensed health care provider trained in the evaluation and management of sports-related concussions.
The Mary Bridge Children’s concussion program specifically focuses on treating injured athletes who are children and young adults, making it the only program of its kind in the South Puget Sound region. Our team of advanced pediatric specialists from Mary Bridge Children’s Pediatric Neuropsychology and MultiCare Orthopedics and Sports Medicine collaborate with community primary care providers to provide state-of-the-art assessment and treatment to patients recovering from concussion.

Their primary care provider will serve as primary contact, teaming with our clinic’s neuropsychologists for higher levels of care as needed, including referrals to sports medicine, psychotherapy or biofeedback.
