How neuropsychologists help
A neuropsychologist is a psychologist with specialty training in assessing cognitive skills, such as intelligence, memory, language, visual perceptual skills, sensory processing, motor abilities, emotional functioning, problem solving, organization and planning.
Our services
Our team of neuropsychology experts offers evaluation, education, consultation and intervention services for patients and their families. We see children of all ages from infancy through adolescence, as well as young adults (up to age 21) who are under the care of Mary Bridge Children’s specialty providers. Our services include:
Neuropsychological evaluations
We provide neuropsychological evaluations for children with conditions that affect their cognitive functioning. These conditions can include infections, seizures, metabolic disorders, cancer, stroke, endocrine disorders, concussions and head injuries. We also provide evaluations for children with serious developmental disabilities. Typically, these evaluations take place over the course of several visits.

Neuropsychological consultation
This service is typically a one-time visit to discuss cognitive concerns related to a medical condition. We provide consultation services to patients who have been admitted to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital as well as those receiving care on an outpatient basis.

Our referral process
A doctor’s referral is required to make an appointment with us. Once we receive a referral, our nursing staff reviews it to determine the appropriate next steps and resources. Please note the following:
Outside referrals
We do accept patients from outside Mary Bridge Children’s and MultiCare. If your child has been referred to us from a provider outside our system, please ensure we receive your child’s medical records and referral information prior to their visit with us.
Assessments for ADHD
We do not provide assessments for otherwise healthy children being evaluated for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Assessment for autism or intellectual disabilities
We may see children with autism spectrum disorder or intellectual disability on a case-by-case basis, with a referral from another specialist, to provide second opinions or evaluate how a child’s level of function may affect their medical treatment.
