Mary Bridge Children’s Neonatal Follow-up Clinic is dedicated to infants and children ages birth to 3 who have experienced prematurity, low birth weight, birth defects or medical conditions that may lead to a developmental delay, as well as those with special care needs during the newborn period.

The Neonatal Follow-up Clinic provides developmental and growth surveillance for infants and children who are at high risk for developmental delays. The program also provides community referral to appropriate services, community providers and agencies.

Our team of specialists — including developmental pediatric nurse practitioners, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, a care manager and pediatric registered nurses — will work with you to evaluate your child, determine their individual needs and develop a care plan. Each provider has training in their professional area related to neonatal needs, neurodevelopment and children.

Our program seeks to:

  • Foster growth and development of high-risk infants and children.
  • Promote parent-infant attachment and interaction.
  • Provide early identification of developmental delays and neuron-motor disorders or cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders.
  • Refer infants and children who need further evaluation and/or intervention to appropriate community resources or service providers.

What to expect and next steps

Appointments are 90 minutes in length and incorporate family feedback, growth and developmental assessment, and education as needed. All referred infants will be seen at the corrected ages of 4, 8, 14, 20, 26 and 32 months. These appointments are strategically scheduled to discover how your child is progressing at these particular ages. Some infants may be seen earlier than 4 months.

A recheck option is available for those children who need to be seen between the scheduled clinics.

Virtual Care appointments are available. Ask if a Virtual Care appointment may be appropriate for your child.
