Women, Infants and Children nutrition services
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides nutritious food, plus other benefits, free of charge to eligible families.
Services offered at our WIC sites in Pierce County include nutritional and breastfeeding support as well as tips on keeping you and your family healthy. We also provide referrals to medical and dental providers, along with a variety of other community resources.

Who we serve
WIC participants must reside in Washington state and meet certain household income guidelines. The program serves the following groups:
- Pregnant people
- Individuals who are postpartum, up to six months after delivery
- Individuals who are breastfeeding, up to one year after delivery
- Children up to 5 years old
- Infants

WIC benefits
WIC provides food on a monthly basis that is designed to supplement participants’ diets with certain nutrients. Some of those foods include:
- Milk
- Dried beans
- Eggs
- Canned tuna/salmon (for breastfeeding individuals only)
- Iron-fortified cereal
- Cheese
- Juice
- Infant formula (for infants requiring a breast milk substitute)
- Peanut butter
- Fruits and vegetables
- Whole grains
- Baby cereal and strained baby foods
WIC has increased its fruit and vegetable benefits
Great news! WIC is increasing the fruit and vegetable benefits! WIC participants will get more money to buy fresh, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables each month. The new amounts are:
- $26 for children participants
- $47 for pregnant and non-breastfeeding participants
- $52 for breastfeeding participants
- $78 for participants fully breastfeeding twins or triplets
Infants 9-11 months can receive $4 – 8 for fresh fruits and vegetables each month in addition to baby food fruits and vegetables.

Other WIC benefits
In addition to providing nutritious food, the WIC program also offers the following services to established WIC clients. Please note that not all services are available at every location.
- Breastfeeding education and support
- Advice and assistance from professionals trained by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE)
- Free breast pumps for those who meet established criteria
- Free visits with a registered dietitian for certain medical or nutritional concerns
- Immunizations through the Mary Bridge Children’s Immunization Clinic or the WIC location in Puyallup on select days
- Nutrition education in both individual and group formats, including classes for children

How to sign up for WIC
Call our friendly staff at a WIC location near you to schedule an appointment. The appointment will take 30-45 minutes. Bring identification, such as a driver’s license, as well as proof of income and proof of residency.
WIC staff will talk with you and fill out the information needed. Eligible clients receive WIC benefits for food on the day of their appointment.
