Supporting the special concerns of children
Discoveries, a program within Bridges Center for Grieving Children, was established in 1994 in recognition of a need that existed within our community. Families faced with a complex illness were struggling to cope with the demands of the illness and to help their children to understand and reconcile the impact on the family. A way to support the special concerns of these children was needed. Bridges’ aim through Discoveries is twofold, one to provide support to the children and the whole family while they work through the stress caused by the illness and two that the children will not cope alone.
As part of the continuum of care offered by Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Center, the Discoveries program is a family program for children between the ages of 4-18 years who are experiencing the serious diagnosis of a family member. Discoveries provides a supportive, creative, and understanding environment for children and their families.
